Instrument Hire

Do we need our own instrument?

What happens if a hire instrument is damaged or lost?

What happens if a hire instrument is damaged or lost?

It is recommended that you hire an instrument in the initial stage of your child's learning.

There are a limited number of instruments available for hire through the school, at competitive prices, and these will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

You will be given more details on this later on this term, along with suggestions of other places to hire instruments from. Instruments hired from the school are serviced over the summer holidays and are then available to students at the beginning of the school year, but the family is responsible for the care and normal maintenance of the instrument (e.g. reeds, cork grease, pull through cleaners, valve oils etc.) during the period of hire.

Where a school hire instrument is lost or damaged through negligence, it is the family’s responsibility to replace or repair it, by a qualified technician selected by the school.

Where the instrument is damaged through normal wear and tear, it may be repaired at the music programs’ expense if the music manager or committee is notified immediately.

Greenwich Public School is pleased to offer instrument hiring and Hire / Buy on a wide range of student instruments.

Hire / Buy is an excellent choice for those wanting to try a new instrument for the first time without having to commit to purchasing the instrument up front. It enables you to take home a brand new instrument with the option to purchase it down the track, or return it after the hire if you do not wish to continue playing.

How the program works

Our minimum hire period on new instruments is three months. A hire fee and deposit are payable on pickup. Following the conclusion of the initial 3-month hire period you may:

  • Purchase the instrument – the 3-month hire fee and the deposit will come off the Hire / Buy price, and you pay the balance remaining to own the instrument outright OR
  • Renew the hire – the hire of the instrument may be renewed (for a further 3-month period) as many times as you wish with the payment of an additional 3-month hire fee.
  • OR Return the instrument – with your deposit being refunded in full subject to the instrument being returned in a good condition with no damage
